Insurance and Billing

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Insurance and Billing

Do you take insurance?

Yes. Dr. Christensen is in network with most Providence, PacificSource, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and Moda health plans.

Dr. Christensen does not accept Medicare.

Even if Dr. Christensen is in-network, you will need to confirm coverage prior to your visits. Not all plans cover naturopathic medicine, even if Dr. Christensen is in-network with that plan. It’s confusing…we know…so please contact your insurance plan prior to your first visit.

Do you take OHP/CareOregon/HealthShare/Medicaid?

Due to changes in the Oregon Health Plan starting 06/01/2025, Dr. Christensen is no longer accepting new patients with HealthShare’s CareOregon Physical Health Plan or other OHP HealthShare Medicaid plans. We are saddened by these changes and hope this will change in the future.

We do not accept other OHP HealthShare Medicaid plans including Kaiser, Providence, Moda, and PacificSource. We do not accept other OHP plans including Trillium. We recognize this is confusing so please send us a message if you have any questions.

Do you confirm insurance coverage and benefits for me?

No. Insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company. You are responsible for confirming your benefits and deductibles. If insurance denies coverage, you are responsible for payment.

Do I have to pay a co-pay before my visit?

No. An invoice for your co-pay is billed to you after your visit by Dr. Christensen’s contracted medical billing company. The length of time it takes for you to receive an invoice for your co-pay, co-insurance, or deductible is dependent on your insurance company’s processes.

Do you offer superbills?

Yes. This can be provided to you after payment has been received. Please notify us that you would like to receive a superbill at the beginning of your visit.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an invoice for services that you can submit to your insurance company directly. Based upon your coverage, you may receive a reimbursement from your insurance company.

Can I pay out of pocket? How much do visits cost without insurance?

See our Fee Schedule here.

Do you take card or cash for self-pay?

Dr. Christensen accepts cash, credit card, debit card, or check. Self pay options are due at the time of service. Dr. Christensen does not offer payment plans.

How do I add my credit card information in Charm?

It’s very easy! Just click on the credit card logo on the top right when you’re signed into the portal. See the photo below. If you are a patient of Dr. Christensen’s, you will need to have a current credit card on file.
